Trends are fun, and should be taken lightly, never too seriously, because they change by the day. It’s hard to keep up with them, but trust me, It’s even harder to keep up with the seasons, especially summer. One of my favorites, but somehow the hardest to prep your closet for. You want to be comfortable but not sloppy, you want to be fashionable, but not feel gross in the heat. I get it! Let’s talk about all the trends you’ll be seeing this August and how you could end your summer with a fashionable bang. It’s never too late to update your closet.
Leopard Print
Leopard print was a big part in the “Mob Wife” trend that began to spread around in fall, By Winter, it was huge. Everyone was wearing smoky eyes, leopard print, and furr coats, it was amazing! But as I always say, when a micro trend like the “Mob Wife” aesthetic is trending, we tend to see parts of that trend trickle down past the initial trend and into other seasons. Hence, leopard print in summer. First of all it’s easy to translet in any season, and second of all because it’s fun! We saw last summer that the whole “Old Money” aesthetic was trending. Lots of neautrals and classy shapes. But this summer, we’re bringing back Y2K and 90’s. We’re starting to play with patterns and shapes and colors again, and it’s so fun. So try out some leopard print, it looks good on everyone!
Gingham
Gingham is definitely geared to a specific auduience. This is probalaly my least favorite trend out of all of these. Very country. Which is another thing we see trending this summer. Gingham anything. Bows, tops, bottoms. Especially red. We saw red was a big summer color last summer and all last season, and it’s still pretty huge.
Bubble Skirts
Now this is a wild card, and not one I was expecting, but I absolutely love it! Bubble skirts have become an absolute stable in my wardrobe this summer just because they’re so light, airy, and fun. It’s a skirt, but just because it’s trending, you look like you know what you’re doing! Typically, they’re a mini skirt and can be very short. The thing that makes them different is the ruching and bubbling at the bottom. I mean, that’s why it’s called a bubble skirt. I know a couple of people were having a hard time styling this. It’s simple! It really goes with anything. Baggy Tshirt, tube top, crop top, anything. Have fun with it!
Jorts
Jorts are surely interesting… It’s obviously a mix of jeans and shorts, stopping at about right above your knee. It’s trending a lot this summer, and to be honest, I haven’t seen Jorts trend in awhile. I’ve seen a lot on models like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner. Of course you could wear this with anything and have any body type to, but it definitely looks good on someone who is taller. I know I don’t look good in Jorts, and I’m 5’4 and mid sized, with bigger hips. This certainly looks best on a straight body type in my opinion, but of course, wear whatever you want! I’d pair Jorts with a crop top, or Tshirt. Maybe some boots, flip flops, or kitten heels. Another trend that looks intimidating, but really isn’t. (Also, shout out to hot pants. they’re also trending and a great one for my short girlies.)
Court Sneakers
I blame Challengers and The Olympics. I predicted that in one of my Summer Trend Predictions TikTok’s that activewear would be a huge trend this summer, and I mean, I’m not sure I was exactly right. But court sneakers? I hit the nail on the head. Mostly tennis-like sneakers. Ones that almost look like Adidas. Which works, because they’re trending too. You could really pair them with anything. Jeans, a skirt, I’ve even seen them paired with a dress.
Bows
Let’s face it, bows are freaking adorable! One of my favorite accessories, designs, embellishments. I just love them! And to see them trending two years in a row just makes me happy. They started to trend when the whole “Coquette” micro trend was happening, and they never went away. Bows are just everywhere, and I love that. Weather they are printed on a shirt, on the back or front of a dress, or are just a tiny little detail. Time and time again the trend has proven they are not just a hair accessory! Bows are adorable and feminine and honestly, a great touch to any outfit. And as I said, makes you look like you know what you’re doing!
Cowboy Core
Cowboy core is very specific and is a bigger trend that plays into all of these smaller ones. We call those “Micro Trends.” Basically they’re just trends that are very short lived involving bigger trends. Once again, micro trends are things like the “Mob Wife” and “Couquette.” Now we have “Cowboy Core.” Denim on denim, hot pants, belts, cowboy hats, silver jewelry, and frill are all things that are trending that fall into this category. The first company I saw do a whole campaign around this was Garage, and they did an amazing job. The pictures above are actually from that shoot. That tube top that says “Cowboy Cushion” is such a mood, I need to get that for my best friend. As summer ends, I’m sure we won’t see this trend in fall, but some things like the denim on denim and hot pants will trickle down. At least that’s my guess.
As I always say, these are just my predictions based on what’s trending already. I am in fashion school and I do like to think I know a little about these things, but please, if you have anything to add, feel free to comment!
